I have a '06 W203 C200 Kompressor. The engine is terminal M271.940. It had the cam sprocket problem and jumped some teeth and now has bent inlet valves.

Would there be any showstopping issues with replacing it with a M271.957. This is an '07 engine and is some kind of revised/updated version of that same 1.8l engine code KE18ML.

Good point mate. I have asked the seller for the VIN this engine came from. Then the plan is to look at the EPC of both vehicles and check the part numbers of the various sensors/actuators/loom for compatibility.

While I'm here, does anyone know if the M271 replacement cam gears from China that eBay is littered with are better than the OEM ones? The OEM ones are rubbish anyway (and 10 times the price) so it would be hard for the pattern ones to be worse. The OEM ones only do 150k from what I can tell, so as long as the pattern ones can do that as well its a no brainer.

I wouldn't use Chinese ones. Such a vital engine component it's just not worth the risk.
The ones from m271.com seem to be well thought of.
