This maybe a question Television can answer. Reading an article on w203 C Class it said the early ones had problems with Sam units burning out because people didn't reconnect battery in correct order ie Earth Lead First thus causing a power surge. I have always connected Poss first on batterys. As I have blown a rear sam myself which is the right way?

I have always been taught at college and brand training to dissconect the earth first and reconnect it last.
This is less likly to cause a surge and if you are to accidently touch your spanner/socket against the bodywork, no sparts or shorts are cause. if you are doing the possitive first you can cause arching etc.

Its as ellsy Tanners really.

The thing that 203's do not like is a battery that has just come off charge where the voltage can be exceed the 12.5 nominal voltage. always better to turn the headlamps on when you join up or just cream off a little of the top with a headlamp bulb
