W203 C220 - Wipers come on with indicators - is it the stalk?

I've got a problem with a C220 where when you indicate (left or right) it makes the wipers pass across the screen. I'm guessing I need a new switch/column stalk, but can't find anything that might confirm that on here.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Are they easy to change?

You do need a new stalk, but it is a steering wheel off job to do, its easy to do

Thanks for a fast reply. Anyone know if there are online instructions on removing the steering wheel. I'd be keen not to accidentally deploy the airbag.

I got this job done, but for the benefit of others I'd add that the car I repaired (a 2002 W203) had what looked like a black plastic cap on the column when the wheel came off. How to remove it was not at all obvious at first, but it turned out that you need to turn it gently to line up 3 holes in the cover with 3 screws underneath. After that it just pulls off and turns out to be a kind of electrical connector.

That connector is the contact spiral, with contains the wiring for the steering wheel which allows it to be turned.

Its basically the wiring in a coil that coils up when turned one way and uncoils when turned back, without snapping or becoming to tight.

That's a right - there's a big long ribbon connector inside. I was dealing with it very gingerly having once ruined a similar set up in a BMW instrument cluster at great expense to myself.

You can get a RED key for locking this clock spring
