I am on my third secondary air pump in 12 months. Is this a known problem on the W203 ? Is it unique to W203 C32.
It's clear I'm not getting to the root cause of the problem.

Also what does the secondary air pump do ? Can anyone direct me to any good threads on it.

Thanks

If this is the electric pump, then the relay must be changed as it goes down, leaving the motor running too long.

It only comes on to put air in when the emissions get too high

Unsure ??
I'll check this out. I am guessing if it's just the relay the pump itself should be OK as it's only a few months old.
I'm trying to find a decent Indie who can sorth these niggles out for me, but struggling, so if not I will have to save up and pay a visit to the dealer :-(

Sorry if I'm being thick, but what purpose does the secondary air pump serve ? I was told it was something that they fitted for colder climate countries (we certainly qualify for that lately).
Will it be damaging the vehicle running without this working ?

When the emissions in the exhaust get too high, it injects air into the intake to clear the system, you can see the pipe going into the manifold from the pump

I have a small paper on this if you would like it
