Hi Guys,

No sure if you can help. I have a 2003 C180k.

Recently the CD Player started to cut out while driving. The CD player will stay powered but no sound will come out. Then after about 1 min the sound will suddenly come back. The CD Player also wont let me access the cd changer either. Although the cd changer has power, because i can remove the cartridge.

Also, when the cd player cuts out, and come back on again, it sometimes wont allow me to change song \ radio station on the head unit, but will though the steering wheel controls.

It's the original merc AUDIO10 cd player and cd changer.

Any help would be great!

Mine has started doing the exact same thing..
I initially bashed the CD player and it came back to life..
But last time I bashed it I bruised my hand and it didn't come to life.
As you say it suddenly starts playing after 10 minutes or so.
On mine the radio is not affected by this animally.

I would try putting a "Head Cleaner" thru it My old W202 used to do this I took it to Audiotronics in Preston they wanted £45 to do an "AIB" clean out on it

i said errrr no thanks ........on my way out one of the assistants followed me out & told me to pop it down to the local garage & give it a quick blast thru the CD "Hole" with the air line & this would clear the problem.

it did with great results ............it was louder, quicker in track changing & worked like it was brand new.................

I would be careful of doing this to a CD owing to the delicate suspension for the CD pick up head,,though it may have a dust cover fitted

Your quite Right Malc ........................... My son uses them "Compressed Air" can (For cleaning out PC boards on Boilers ..............I would be inclined to use one of those rather than a high pressure Air Line!!!

thanks guys. the cd player has also stopped recognising the cd changes all together now...although the cd changer still has power. Could a simple blast of air do the trick here?
