W203 Dash LCD

I swopped over a dash binacle today because it has 2 lines missing from the LCD right across the mileage, so I pinched one from a car that is being sold on and the mileage did not read, it just had dashes where the numbers should be, is there any trick to make it work or cant it be done?

The info needs taking out of your old one and putting in the new, the info in your other car needs the info from the one that you are putting in yours
