My recently purchased W203 C320 (2000x reg) has what appears to be a common problem in that there is a loud clicking noise from behind the dashboard. It was originally just occurring after the engine was switched off but since the weather turned colder it is happening for a minute or so after start up.
Apparently there is a 'bodge' involving breaking off the offending cog but does anyone know how to locate and get to it?

If it's a fast clicking which lasts about 30-40 seconds then it will be a stepper motor for one of the blending flaps on the heater box. The most common one is at the back, left hand side - not easy to get to!

The noise seems to coming from somewhere under the large vent on top of the dash but I can't see a way of removing it.
Does any one one know of a specialist in the Kent area who may be able to sort this problem at a lower cost than a main dealer?
