W203 Folding Mirrors problem

Hi guys

Have been searching the web high and low for a solution to some trouble Im having with my folding mirrors.

The car in question is 2000 model W203 C200k Elegance. The problem I am having is I cannot get the mirrors to fold out, having had them fold in. It is a one touch system (I dont need to hold it down to get it to fold completely).

This has gradually been getting worse - every time I press to fold out I needed to press repeatedly, to the point where it doesnt seem to want to fold out anymore! Have had no such problems getting it to fold in though.

Have had a quick search through the forums but could not find anything on this. Any advice much appreciated.

Sounds like you need a new switch, pretty common fault!

Get some PTFE (Halfords,tool shops) and spray it into the moving fulcrum point in the mirror, and they should work OK,,they get too stiff

As Malcolm says, mine occasionally would not fold out. Since spraying lubricant inside they have never failed once.

Assuming it is the switch and not because it is too stiff, is this something I can rectify myself?

Yes and we can give you the details, PTFE will not hurt the paint

Well, I ran it into the Dealer yesterday to see what the problem was and they reported back as being:

N/S Door ECU faulty, &
Head lamp switch faulty

They said replacing the former will probably mean the latter doesnt need to be replaced, but they wont be able to tell until it is replaced.

They managed to unfold the mirrors using their diagnostic tools, but once I had parked up I instinctively folded it again :Oops:

Also found a few other faults that are costly repairs too.

Take it to a specialist and save yor money.

I doubt it will be the door control module
