Hello All,

Wonder if someone could give me some advice,

I have just replaced the camshaft adjuster in my car, but im having a problem refitting the timing chain.
I have pushed the tensioner all the way back, but still can not get the Exhaust pulley on :(
What i would like to know is,
1. Do I need to remove the tensioner to reinstall the pulley bearing in mind it sits behind the supercharger
2. Where does the Camshaft TDC marks sit as i would like to check the timing before closing up

Thanks

Yes the chain tensioner must be fully removed and reset, to give you the slack to refit the chain, and then the reset tensioner but back in.

You only need remove the top half section on the super charger.

c230 timing instructions ---

I have some papers that I can send

Do you have any material on how to do timing on a c230 1998. I just replaced the head gasket and need to adjust the camshafts and the timing chain.

Thanks

loud noise on my c230 kompressor

Dear Malcolm:

Let me explain to you why I think I need to check the chain tensioner.
3 months ago I broke the oil pan because of a crash accident. Before I new my car had an enormous hole on the oil pan I started the engine to days after the accident, just ran it idle for 30 seconds. The engine sounded great. Then I decieded to take out the engine to fix very well the chassis and to change the oil pan. But because of time it took me 3 months to finish the job. Yesterday I inserted the engine made the connections, place a new oil filter, the oil (5w30), and when I started the engine it started a GREAT HORRENDOUS NOISE, but I think the "like loud diesel engine" noise comes from the timing chain.

What do you think?? my idea is that because I started the engine without oil 3 months ago the tensioner ran out of oil. But I do not know how to solve the problem. I really turn it on for 30 seconds maximum.

The Email has sent out OK and it will be in your junk box.

If the engine has had no oil in it and then started,,it will take time for the oil to get pumped around, it may pay you to crank the engine a bit with the High voltage plug leads off to prime the oil pump etc
