Hi guys,

I have a w203 - 2003 C Class Coupe

Recently the engine has developed a idel fault. The engine will idel between 800 and 2000 revs on it's own. Does this sound like a vacuum problem?

Sometimes it's aright and idles fine, other times it doing this 800 to 2000 up and down motion.

Any help would be great!

This should be a leak in the inlet somewhere, either a vacuum pipe is split or off, it is air getting in under max vacuum condition, and that is at idle

What is the first 6 numbers of the chassis number so i can work out what engine is in the car.
I have had this sort of problem and this was caused by a split pipe down the side of the engine

Hi taffrhys

I take it the car chassis number is WDB2037462a as the number you put does not exist on a mercedes. If is is what i put you have a 271 engine in the vehicle and to me would point to the pipe down the side of the engine. Yeah you would have to take out the airbox but youwill also have to take out the supercharger as well to gain access to it to replace it

The 203 746 does exist and a valid number, and the engine is the 111

I know that the 203 746 does exist that is why i out it taffrhys had put 203 476 in his reply which would make it a 203 convertible and a 600 engine in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When i put the chassis number into wis or epc it only comes up with a 271 engine

Hi guys,

Sorry, yes it is the WDB2037462a willow.

Any ideas if removing the airbox / super charger is a difficult one? I read on anouther forum that simply removing the airbox is all that is needed to get access to the pipe. This is a real pain in the ass! haha,

Thanks for you help guys!

Removing the air box is not too much of a problem if you have the right tools as there is an awkward clip down the back of the airbox to undo.

What area are you in

can concur, no need to remove the superdooper, and not too hard a job for the competent.

Hi, best thing to do before you start stripping things off, somthing i do all the time is, with the engine running on tickover just give a little spray of brake cleaner down the n/s of engine block and you will find the wngine will change its tune and run much better for a few seconds, that will then confirm the usual pipe that splits on these engines.
Hope this helps
