w203 strange wiper setting?

when i have wiper on normal (when i say normal, i mean not intermittant and not fast) its as you would expect but then when i come to stop, the wipers go onto intermittant, which in some conditions is fine, but, if its quite heavy rain, when turning at a junction sometimes i cant see! i have to put the wiper onto FAST mode, to keep them on, is this normal?

I dont think i have rain sense, or at least if i do, it doesnt work ;p

hi,
mine did that not long after i bought it but i new that it didn't have rain sensitive wipers.
apparently when you come to a stop the wiper go onto int. as not needed to wipe continually and they restart as you move, not sure if if they stop when the door is open or if that is only the e class, always used to manage to soak my wife just as she was about to get in the car!

If you have folding mirrors & headlight wash, then you will have rain sensor

Yes - mine work exactly like that - it's a feature of the car. I don't have rain sensing wipers either.

In 2 yrs of ownership I can't recall it ever causing me a problem. In fact it bugs me when I drive our other cars in rain and the wipers don't do this.

yes i noticed that they dont work when the doors were open, at 1st i thought they had broke, then when i shut the door they came on, so i guessed that was a feature. i dont have rainsense then, and as you say Rory it doesnt usually matter, but from time to time ive been sitting at junction waiting and not been able to see for all the rain sat on the screen and have to put them on to fast mode to see! but nevermind i guess
