Folks, i managed to break the window switch button yesterday on my 2001 c180, w203. Its the driver one in the quad panel.

I tried a search here and on the web and cant find a replacement.

Anyone have any idea where to look or what i should do, it is just the button itself has snapped, may for the time being just swap it with a rear button till i manage to locate a new one. is it a big job to remove the door card to get at the guts of the switch ?

thanks in advance,

oleras

I dont know if you can get a after market switch pack to be honest, so it might be a trip to the dreaded, evil, money crabbing, striped vest wearing, stealership to get one!!!

The door pannel must come off to replace, its not to hard at all, a few screws and then it pops off around the circumfrence with clips. screws are behind srs button and pull handle. remove triangle speaker cover top left and small cover around lock.

Give it a go, its self explanatory when you look at it.

I managed to source one from a breakers in the UK, £35 delivered to Ireland !

I had to get a part number for him and had some trouble getting the door card off, i removed the screws from behind the srs badge and the one on the cover near the door lock, managed to pop the bottom of the card and get up under it with my hand and release the switches. Could not figure out how to remove the door handle on the inside ?

Anyway, what i noticed was the switch seems to be hardwired back through the car in a loom, could not see any elec connectors ? Will i have to solder the new swich on or am i missing something obvious ?

Thanks so far for all the help, im sure i have saved a few quid already !:)

Is the plug as far back as the circut board ? i took the back off the switch, saw the wires going into the board but did not remove the board from the housing.

The switch is held in with a sliding clip, as you slide the clip down it pulls out the door card, then if memory correct (getting on now) there a pull/slide plug on the switch, can you add a pict of the switch so we can see what your talking about, it takes about 5 min to remove a door card of a 203 including wiring, as said not done one for a few months so tad rusty on what switch plug looks like!!

Remove the cover on the grab handle and two screws under that. The the door pannel will come of and you will clearly see where it plugs in, a little multi plug conector in the control unit.

Finally got a chance to replace the switch this morning, i highlighted the grab/door handle for any other  people like me, i spent the first 20 mins trying to remove the door handle before realising the door handle might also be the handle that one uses to close the door and not open it , DOH !

Thanks for all the help folks. ;)
