It looks as though the motor is at fault, you need to check if there is 12v present when the switches operated.

Sadly I have the same problem with my mother in law's car.

Does anyone have a 'how to' on this?

Many Thanks

thanks Malcolm, got it off np had a quick fiddle about
When I try the switch with ignition on I get a click like a soloniod from the black box inside the door so it sounds as if the switch is ok and poss the box, cant test for 12v at the motor cos I havent managed to get to the wires yet, i presume there will be a removeable plug in connector on the motor? there seems to be about 4 wires going to it god knows what they do!
I'll try and have a better look during the week in the mean time any info u can give me on the wiring etc would be great

Thanks

Phil

You could try as in picture below, yours won’t be the same as the one pictured (1994 C180) as yours will have a black box however loosening the four screws and wiggling up and down should get the motor moving,

Contrary to what I say in the picture below, I now believe it is possible to remedy motor failure by dismantling and cleaning the armature and Commutator (where the brushes contact) I did this with a failed motor and it is now working fine HOWEVER the motor was never tested in the car over time so am not absolutely sure how effective cleaning is.

Sorted I think it was just a bad connection on the motor, had to move the cable to get to the screws and after i'd moved it, it work ok, tried to reproduce the fault but couldnt so it seems to be ok. Thankyou to those that helped

Cheers
