Hi all.

I have a 2008 C220 that's been stood for almost 12 months and I am now getting it ready to be MOT'd.

The last time I used the car the AC and the heater blower were fine, but now the AC light blinks three times then goes off which I understand means that it needs to be re-gassed. However the heater blower is not working either, I have checked all the fuses I can find but nothing seems amiss.

Anyone had this before or know where I should begin?

Kind regards

Hello and welcome,

Fan is likely to be water damaged… scuttle / battery drains block - water then enters the blower housing corroding the fan.

Before firing the parts canon I’d take it apart and check that is actually what’s happened.

I'll remove the fan first and see if anything is obvious and hook it up to 12v to see if it spins or not.

trouble being .... manufacturers tend to take the fan & build the car around it! ;)
If you can get your hand to it, try spinning it in situ. EmilysMum's Citroen let water in than drowned the hamster wheel type fan. I bought a resistor for it ... still didn't work. I managed to just get my fingers to it & give it a little spin! Sorted!

The £100 resistor is still in my garage1 :(

Up under the passenger side of the dash normally, so lying on your back in the footwell which is never pleasant.

I've removed the panel above the ECU in the engine bay and can see the fan so I'll try giving it a spin tomorrow when I'm next working on the car.

The hamster wheel was quite stiff, gave it a few turns with the fan switched on in the cabin, low and behold it sprung back to life! Thanks all.

The lower bearing will be corroded, hopefully it will keep going for you… mine lasted another couple of months

Thanks, I'll just swap it out if it happens again but seems ok for now!
