Hi there.
I have recently replaced the front grill on my 2018 W205 with the new style diamond grill. Since fitting this the collision avoidance sensor has been showing the dirty sensor message, I have cleaned the sensor but to no avail, I assume the replacement central star differs from the original, preventing the sensor working correctly through the plastic, has anyone had any experience with this or any ideas on how to overcome this. Any help much appreciated

Was the original Star solid or the new one? Pictures may help

That does sound like where the problem may be, particularly if the Grille was not OEM

Try if it works without the grill (just in the street).

Could also be that you didnt put the cable back correctly.

Pics below, both stars are solid, however the new star is not OEM, I have tried the sensor behind floating diamonds in the new grill but get the same error message of dirty sensor

Looking at those pictures the later one doesn’t have a solid Star like the second/third picture

The new star is solid, albeit a different set up from the original, I am assuming it is the the material that doesn’t allow the sensor to see through

Nope, it’s open in that picture, when we talk about the star it’s everything inside the circle that should be solid, yours shows the mesh behind and therefore the sensor is getting different readings that expected

Did the whole of the bumper have to be removed to fit the replacement grill ?
