Hi all

Im loving this 2015 c class ive got, best car ive ever had but the sound system seems to be just the basic option and its got no bass at all. I understand if theres a sub woofer, its on the parcel shelf but i cant see one so im assuming its not got one?

Has any one upgraded the sound system or added a sub woofer before? im just wondering how i can make it sound better. Its not the volume im bothered about, just the sound. Ive got a 2006 Audi and its got the best sound system ive ever had in a car, blows this 2015 Merc away

thanks

Lol not really an option Rich, my cars got a ton of extras but why not upgrade the sound when you have to listen to it everyday

Hopefully in year or 2 ill be able to get a c63s coupe but im loving my car until then

The stereo will be ok ish it will be the speakers that let it down , a friend of mine bought a premier model with the base spec stereo / speakers and he couldn’t believe the difference when he heard mine, can’t see you getting a simple upgrade as everything is fitted. I can tell a difference if I listen to music on my phone through Bluetooth compared to a Apple cable tho so maybe try cables ? Is your stereo DAB ?

Maybe try a car stereo specialist see if they can add an amp or speaker upgrade ?

Kept standard stereo in the C207, but had local ICE company add an Amplifier and slim-line Sub for about £500 fitted. The improvement was massive and certainly as good as the HK Logic7 system I have in the CLS.

Mercs have always had flat speakers given the cars, i noticed it first on my old trusted W124, must have the best stereo in at the time (Blaupunkt), but the speakers were terrible.

If you are well into listening to great tunes and all the frequencies of the music, then a unpgrade bose or HK is a must.

Weve done a load of these. Standard speakers are rubbish. If you amplify them they will eventually go bang. Burmester isnt much better.

Slightly off thread, but what are the speakers like for cars with HK fitted from factory?

Cars with HK benefit massively by having the door speakers changed for Morels. HK is better than Burmester but neither are particularly outstanding.

We have changed a lot of HK / Burmester cars, the results are stunning for a relatively small outlay.

May have to look into that some more then, my hearing isn’t great these days and the tinnitus makes things worse I’ve found

Hi, Alfie. Do you think I can improve the sound of my CLS basic audio if just changing the speakers? It’s c218 2017.

Yes definitely. Standard speakers are utterly dreadful.

Something I often tell customers is this;

If you go to look at a car and its the wrong colour or wrong interior, then you probably wont buy it. If it is the right colour, trim engine etc but has a dire audio system, you will probably still buy the car. Manufacturers know this so why spend anything on making the standard sound any good? They of course will relieve you of additional funds for their upgraded sound system. Typically this is around £700 for HK/Burmester. After VAT, profit and manufacturing costs etc is probably about £100 worth of ‘better’ parts. In reality this upgrade is marginally better than standard. Mercedes are not judged on their speaker quality.

There are specialist speaker manufacturers who are judged on quality and really know what they are doing.
Morel, Focal, Blam etc make some stunning speakers that will transform the sound in the car even without an amp.

I recently changed the speakers in my new Vito for Morels. I added an amp too. I can hear notes that were simply not reproduced with the standard speakers. The clarity, crispness and dynamic range are now stunning. I also added an underseat 8” sub.

Alfie, I've got the Burmester system in my W205, I like the Burmester speaker grills, would I lose them if the speakers were upgraded?
