hi im having a problem with my clk 230 komp on an x plate 2000 the manifold cracked as seems to be a common problem on these models which in turn eventually activated the engine managment light i drove it for a few hundred miles like this as i knew the fault and planned to repair myself on leave, fitted the new manifold with gasket from merc dealer which made it sound proper again had it plugged into computer at local independant workshops came up as oxgen sensor downstream of cat so replaced this light came on again with fault code oxygen sensor upstream of cat also replaced this on but the light has come on again with the code oxygen sensor downstream cat convertor but its working because it says so on the computer im wondering if maybe the cat is doomed as its started making a slight rattle under load when pulling off or could it be that the fault has been stored due to the length of time i ran it in the ecu and it needs restoring back to factory settings can anyone help as this orange light will soon be the death of me

Hello, Unforntunatly it sounds like your car has the oil in the wiring loom fault, which comes from the camshaft adjuster magnet on the front of the engine and travels around the wiring , ending up at the o2 sensors and the ecu, do a search and there are loads of cases of this

sorry dude!!!

Or it COULD be your downstream o2 sensor, the management system knows what reading the rear sensor should give, and if the cat is failing, it would be higher than normal. Check reading with a tester or scope. there should be no pattern on the rear sensor if the cat is working properly. the front should have a normal pattern.

funny i was thinking this i had it serviced at merc while the manifold was cracked and the light was on they said thats the reason the light was on but also said there was nothing wrong with the exhaust even though it was clearly blowing so i thought maybe they were trying to rip me off anyway i can check myself merc dealer quoted in excess of a £1000 to fix surely not ohh dear
