Hi, My partner runs a 2000 model year CLK 200, she has owned this car for around 18 months. Recently starting has become laboured under cranking, turning over slowly (symptom of a low battery) the battery has been replaced and cars electrical system is charging, but it still has this problem, I suspect that the starter motor might be the cause but am not sure. Has anyone had similar problems?

Thanks Woolie1000

One test would be the old favourite - see if the lights dim right down on starting. If they do you're probably back to battery/ charging system problems. If they only dim a bit then maybe starter/ other mechanical problem.

Check for voltage drops (whilst cranking) across the fat cable from battery to starter and from engine and battery to frame, poor connections or crimping will cause the poor cranking. The car is old enough for these problems to manifest theselves.
What is the battery voltage whilst cranking?
A jiggerd starter would also present the same trouble.
