W208 Wing Mirror

My left hand wing mirror takes along time to return from the reverse position (pointing down to show kerb) and judders so was wondering if it just needs some careful lubing (silicone spray?). Is it possible to remove cover and check? Looked at Bayers and it shows when mirror pushed back an opening in which to push screwdriver in to push clip and remove cover. When I push mine back I just see a black cover. Any help or other suggestions appreciated. Thanks

You need to remove the mirror glass, press it in at the bottom and you will see a long spring wire running along the top, press down the end and it unhooks. the glass will now lift up and out, there are hooks in the bottom. You can now see the mirror drive.

If anything is too tight, or restricting the glass movement, the little plastic gears will jump
