Hi, what sort of benefit would I get from having the exhaust de-catted, stainless system and a remap done? The exhaust would mainly be done for a better V8 roar. Is there much power to be got from a remap? I don't care about economy.
    Thanks.

25bhp and 40Nm or thereabouts. Malcolm Television had his SL500 done last year.

Is that just for the remap? Does de catting make much difference?

I believe Malcolm had that done first and did notice some difference, it's the big secondary cats that he had removed. He also had a very nice X pipe added as well as the engine remapped. All in all he has a nicer sound and a slightly quicker car.

Member Television, he posts on here about 15000 times a day, you can't miss him ;)

i have panel filters , remap and remodelled rear boxes on my CL500 216 , defo wouldn't have it standard , remap makes it much sharper to drive in all modes and the noise is epic but not over powering when cruising , no drone either

Ok, great thanks. Can you get induction kits and if so, are they worth it?
I also heard that you can fit a supercharger of another model merc? Is that true? Again if so, which one?
    Thanks again.

there are no benefits from using a cone filter over a panel filter pal , the V8 doesn't make much intake roar like some 16v engine cars do , concentrate on getting the noise out the back

No not true. Some people in the US have don it but the costs are more than swapping in a 5.5 Kompressor engine...

I think the 500 has similar power to the 55, in which case I gained around 10% on my CLK55.

Stock output is quoted as 367PS, so 360hp give or take. I think mine put out around 357hp, it went up to 397, and could have gone higher but I would have had to run 98 ron / super all the time, so we did a safe tune well within limits at 390 (389.7 to be exact).

It had secondary decat when this tune was done, and the air box modded, but not sure if that made any difference at all.

Since had further exhaust work and adding BMC's for better flow. He added an extra 3% to allow for better breathing. Have been meaning to do another power run, probably a steady 390 now.

Fuel economy didn't change at all.

I get around 30 on a long run, 18 round town.

Secondary decat doesn't make much difference to the noise, a little bit more, but in the end I went for an all new custom rear section with a bypass pipe put in as well.

    Cheers,

My local indy reckons that a supercharger kit can be sourced and fitted for about £2500. When the divorce goes through it'll be near the top of the list.

Maybe it will be cheaper to spend the £2500 on the missus and not get divorced :p

    I'd rather get divorced!! :D
Gonna buy a £55,000 motorhome and a new KTM 1290 Duke R too!
I know I could buy a nice C63 or similar but I only use the car at weekends and during the better weather in the summer I'll be on my bike.
I love the CLK 500 cos it surprises the hell out of most people!:D

It's the supercharger from a 55K I believe. I've seen two or three examples of this done in the US, in each case it worked out cheaper to sell the car and buy a similar 55K. Much mackling of bits required and not pretty.

So many things needed from a 55k to transplant its just not feasable.

As an example, to supercharge a N/A C63 with an admittedly expensive Weistec s/c, intercooler, pulleys etc costs over £12k;)

Well you know the Americans, they like to be different. You can readily buy supercharger kits for 911 996s to convert them into Turbos, but that screws the engine up summat rotten as the new unit screws onto non- load bearing points in the engine casting.

I never said it was cheap, but it is possible. Economically bonkers though.

Get some details then, as far as anyone here with a 5.0 N/A V8 knows it is completely infeasible to do economically.

Sounds like an in depth remap, much unlike to the usual services offered, where did you have it done?
