it was mainly to point you in the direction of nokia so you could at least check if the kit in your car was compatible with your phone me not being into the phone thing in cars dont know much about it and dont like mobiles in cars sort of thing  it was just a nudge in the nokia direction rather than guess

You need to find out if the two phones are of the same hardware/software family. One way to check is to look if the connectors at the botom of the phones are the same and also see if Nokia offered the same kinds of modem, adapters and, for example, PC software for the two phones.

If so, it will get you past the first hurdle. the other one is to see if they are the same size and fit for the cradle.

I had a factory fitted 6210 in the armrest of my W209 which I have DIY upgraded to 6310i. The PSE interface module that you will HAVE to upgrade is located centrally between the back seats and the spare wheel. Reasonably easy job.
Now the bad news. MB charge £238.50 (incl VAT) for the PSE module, A 203 820 51 85 which is the current one for a 6310i. Although almost physically identical (reasonable rather than perfect physical fit to the existing cradle), the 6310i requires this updated PSE to function.

Occasionally you can find them on ebay for about £100, usually from Germany, but be warned, stick to the above model number as many older ones are for sale (discards from others who have upgraded from 6210's or older).

Can't see any on ebay at the moment. Recommended search words -Mercedes Nokia Interface.
This is a link to an OBSOLETE one. I have included it so that you can see the unit & the type of listing. DO NOT BUY THIS ONE.

There has recently been some talk of UHI (Universal Handy Interface) and Bluetooth functionality, but that might only be for just appearing ModelYear2005 W209's which have been upgraded to DVD Comand and a completely different Can Bus system (MOST replacing the older DB2). I would suggest discussing this with MB and take this route if possible. The 6310i is getting 'long in the tooth' (pun). Recently Nokia announced it's withdrawal, but seemed to have retracted that for now. However it is less than clear if they intend a family upgrade path for the 6310i. This decision is an important one as MB's (hopefully) last longer than Nokia's.
