Morning forum..

The V-belt idler pulley on my CLK320 requires replacing as it has begun to split.

I am hands-on with the tools and reasonably able, can this be done without removing the belt? I wondered could I can keep the belt tensioned/supported/ in position to remove the old and replace new pulley??

Apologies if this is a stupid question and ridiculous thought

Thanks in advance..

Replace the belt at the same time. Clean all grooves, check all other pulleys.
Its an easy job on most cars. Just be careful with the grenade pin.

As above. If the idler pulley is original change it. You be surprised how small the bearing is.
It let go on my CLK M272 motor without warning, motor, at around 80K miles
The shredded belt wrapped it's self round the crankshaft between block and crankshaft pulley
causing problems.
