Got the warning light so changed the bulb, still no good, checked the old bulb and its fine, all the connections look clean and the wiring connector looks ok. Had this happen about 4 years ago and my indie just tried an original spare and it worked fine ever since till now.

Is the bulb holder making adequte connection with the bulb and vice versa.
So sometimes pulling the prongs up and out is needed and they can get seated too low.
Likewise the connectors on the bulbs can wear due to constant vibration.

Check you have voltage to the bulb holder with a multimter and you need someone to depress brake pedal to rule out the bulb holder circuit.

I have only ever used mb bulbs. In 20 odd years of ownning MB cars as keepers. i have replaced no more than 3 bulbs. they seem very high quality.

I have a 209 too and l think sometimes they can experience electrical / electronic glitches for no apparent reason. I recently put up a thread about a warning relating to 3rd brake light. I switched everything off and locked up. Upon returning to the car it was fine and so far (touch wood) has remained fine.

Have much same problem with CLK. Remove bulb, clean contact and replace, usually works.

Unexplained glitch as per my previous post. They must be prone.
