W210 1996 E230 Cluster problem

Well this car is the dogs been superb for years 149000 miles,but twice the cluster has had a problem for some reason this year,everything works fine except the mileage suddenly decided to read 7500 not 149000.So i decided to disconnect it.It then went to 250 and has counted on since that to present 3300,puzzled any ideas,and is this reading set in the cluster memory or the ecu.Any way can this be re-set by disconnecting the battery and purging for some time then powering up again or will I loose everything else if I do so,any ideas?,cheers John.

Welcome to the forum.
Mercedes I imagine, they would do it if you could verify the mileage.
Google "mileage correction" there are plenty of companies that do it.
It would need to be plugged into a laptop so disconnecting the battery in attempting to clear it won,t work.
I think it might be worth getting your cluster looked at before paying to get this done, otherwise it might decide to reset itself again.
