Took the car for an MOT yesterday which my w210 E320 1997 84K passed without problem.

When I opened the car up yesterday morning though to take it to the MOT, the drivers electric window and wing mirror were not working. I press the button and no noise whatsover. Fortunately the window is not an MOT fail but i clearly need to fix.

I have searched the forums for a solution but cant see an answer for my particular issue. As I say, there is no noise whatsoever when i press the button so my first check was for fuses, but couldnt see an issue, although I wasnt sure which fuse was the correct one. Strangely the fuse card didnt list the drivers door windows.

Sorry to have to ask about windows on the 210's again:Oops:, but as I say, my search didnt produce the answer. Which fuses should I be looking at or is it likely to be something else?

the VIN is WDB2100652A

I'm guessing at the wiring going into the drivers door being damaged/broken.

hi admiral, if you can i suggest you disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then try again. obviously you will need the radio code (if it has one), and the window operation will need resynchronizing (easily done, just press the first stage 'up' (ie manual up, not auto up)on each switch for a couple of seconds with the windows up). if this restores the window function then get back on here for further advise.

I finally found time over the weekend to get under the rear seat and disconnect the battery as per Alexander Patients advice and yes, it has done the job!

Thank you very much for your help, the wing mirror and the window etc all working as they should. I would have been looking for the solution for a long time without your help!

I now have other problems with fuses but I will do some searching before posting another question.

Thank you again.

sadly admiral it will probably happen again. you have a common problem with your rear door control modules corruption the can communication on the car. the proper fix is to replace whichever side module is at fault, or you can simply disconnect them if you prefer.

Thank you Alexander, one of the rear windows didnt work when I bought it, but as its a station car and rarely do I carry passengers, I wasnt concerned!
I took the rear door panel off at the weekend when I was poking around and found that the window was wedged up with a block of wood. The motor works okay but the cable was tangled. I am hoping that if I can source a new cable, then all will work again but perhaps not. I have had the car for a few months and its the first time it has happened. When it goes wrong again, I will disconnect as you advise.

The other problem I suspect is fuse related and affects the locking, sunroof and front interior lights. I am unable to unlock the car unless i am standing next to the doors pointing the key at the sensor on the handle. The sunroof and lights dont work.
I have checked the fuses under the rear seats which are all okay and removing / wiggling them one by one solved the problem. All fuses looked okay so must be a connection somewhere there but couldnt see it and unfortunatly didnt manage to work out which was the offending fuse! Its easy to solve and through a process of elimination, I will get a permanent fix unless there is any more trickery that I dont know!

The giood news was at least I didnt find any rust in the doors during my investigations. Still love the W210!

Thank you again.:)

locking faults can also be associated with the rear window controllers problem. there are various modules involved in locking that can be put out of service by the can bus corruption, until a reset is done. note that removing power supply fuses to affected modules would have the same effect as disconnecting the battery for that one module.
