Afternoon all, As per the title. I want to check / change the Diff Oil on my 2001 51 plate W210. The car has done approx 100,000 miles and the other day noticed that the bottom of the Diff looked a little wet - this corresponds to a few little drops of oil on the drive.

How do I check the level of the diff oil in the diff? and if I want to top up / Change the diff oil - how do i do that and what oil do I have to use?

Many Thanks

Matthew

On the left (passenger) side of the diiff, just above half way up, is a 14mm allen key nut, which is the fill bung. the one on the bottom at the drivers side is the drain bung.

The oil required is hp 80/90 gear oil.

If you are lossing oil then the most common cause is the side drive shaft seals. the diff must be dropped to do this, which really requires a ramp or pit.

A very tough diy repair, and a garage will want 4-5 hours labour to do it.
