had bsp/esp abs light come on while driving(also had engine management light on)the cam position sensor was leaking oil-I fixed it by pumping sealant into it (after de-rivveting it)-was told a load of bullsh** that there was a "modified" type by a "merc" specialist-£150 for a new one from the stealers-then went to start the car later-it was dead-ignition key was accepted by the lock(double click)-although one of my keys are f**ked and get no response. The dash lights up-showing NO malfunctions(apart from the engine management light).....called out break down service-he found NO power at starter solenoid-but started the engine by Jumping the terminals.(with ignition key in ignition)-but I couldn't get gearbox out of park(10 mins later on your forum- I found a fix)-engine runs but seems that the gearbox is stuck in 2nd(enough to get me home-at a miserable 40 mph).......was thinking it may be the EIS?-but don't know where to find it-or how to change it!-any help would be appreciated!-I'm a newby and hope that this info would get someone home (even if the EIS is f**ked)

Hello and welcome.

Some times the brake light switch can cause lock up of the gear selector, it is the most common fault for ESP and BAS lamps coming on

The EIS is the electronic ignition system, some times the key will come back to life by just leaving it in the lock for 90 mins, or press any button and insert it within 30 seconds, but it does look as though the switch itself has gone, the whole thing has to be replaced.

You have nothing to lose by doing a re set by disconnecting the battery for 10 mins, though I am optimistic in this case.
