All, Car is a 2001 W210 220cdi, 120k. Ive got a real annoying problem! Drivers side front foglight, doesnt work! always has done, passenger side one works fine! put a new bulb in it nothing, checked the immediate wiring, seems OK,checked fuse, looks OK (must be cos passenger side fog light works) also took the bulg from the passenger side and put it in the drivers side, nothing! so it aint the bulb. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Poor contacts in the connector to lamp. Use a Switch Cleaner, from Maplin or the like, and spray both the male and female connectors then re-connect a couple of times to clean off the coating that forms on the pins/sockets.

Agreed, the terminals can get quite corroded, it is also a pain getting to them on the front fog-lights.

Hi all, Many thanks for the responses - today I had the day off so I decided the treat the old girl to a wash, polish and wax and a hoover out - boy she dont arf look pretty! anyway, after doing all that I thought Id have a look at the foglight that didnt work - see original post, after a bit of investigation I found the issue, one of the wires that goes into the plug at the bottom of the fog light had corroded and come away from the plug connector, so I cleaned everything up and re soldered the wire on the post and reconnected everything up. Foglight now works a treat. so in a way just like you said Blobcat - corrosion! mind you, I still get a "check lamps" warning up when I turn the sidelights on? but they all work?? anyone know thw answer?

Thanks again everyone!

Have you checked the number plate lights? also some are dual bulbs and there might be one that is off but the light is still lit. I used to regularly go over the rear lights on my W210 with some emery paper and contact cleaner as they would go high enough resistance to set off the bulb warning but not always enough to stop the light working.
