W210 320CDI
Hi guys, I’m new to the forum. I’ve recently acquired a W210 320CDI as a bit of a project to be my new daily. Fixed a couple of issues with the vehicle already, namely limp mode which was caused by faulty oil breather heater which had shorted and was popping a 7.5a fuse in the ecu box, thus putting air mass and egr open circuit faults into the system. The Car has been sat for about 2 years and since getting it running properly, one thing I’ve noticed is that it seems to be quite sluggish after a few mins of driving. I do have mechanical sympathy, but when the car is stone cold it feels very responsive however, after about half a mile or so it seems to become very lethargic low down. It gets up to speed okay, but feels slow to react to throttle input and seems to hold onto higher gears unless I mash the kickdown. It feels as though it has no sense of urgency, it really doesn’t feel like a nearly 200hp car should. I’ve noticed it kicks out a fair bit of smoke from the back when accelerating too, enough for pursuing cars to hang back a little lol. I’ve ordered a new inlet gasket as I’ve noticed the swirl flaps have been disconnected, most likely because they’re seized, so was going to get the intake off and clean it and the EGR out. I’ve also seen some people have carried out an EGR shunt? I’ve been browsing these forums for a few days now but some of the posts are very old and I can’t see the photos attached to help with doing this. Does anyone have any recommendations before I crack on with the inlet? Is the gearbox prone to causing these issues or is it most likely EGR related? Sorry for the long winded post and thanks in advance for any help.

fix the swirl flap issue - dont bypass issues - thats just a bodge.
Look at replacing PCV. Sitting for 2 years may have hardened.

Going to sort flaps and manifold this weekend, but is the EGR bypass really a bodge? I’ve seen this on countless forums on here, seems to be highly recommended

If you are bypassing something that has a function to ignore its failings, then thats a bodge.

Having said that, each to their own.

It may be a bodge...but it was a very good bodge when I did it on my E320cdi all those years ago. Don't ask me anything about it though...long forgfotten how I did it. ..but it was electronic rather than a physical block.

Be ace if somebody had some photos of it, the forum thread about the delete is very old and unfortunately none of the pictures load

I don't have the car anymore. The pictures would only show wiring and a resistor. And disconnect the vacuum line to the egr (I think).

I’ll have another read through the old forum see if I can piece it together
