Where can I find information on Mercedes model identifier codes?

Things like w210 etc. mean nothing to me. Personally I would like to see people refering to their car as say 2003 E220CDi saloon. Now everyone knows what car is being referred to.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies, but to be honest they are not very helpfull. I checked both lists and they just added to the confusion with pages of numbers etc.

Why oh why just write the name of the car? Unless buying a Mercedes is like joining some sort of secret society.;)

well, it can also be confusing if you cite the model as you suggest. For example, what is exactly a 1996 E230? It could be both a w124 as well as a w210... so really one needs to use both chassis and model name + year...

Don't worry, soon you will know your Mercs, its a rite of passage ;)

Exactly which model E220CDi saloon do you run ???????????

Is it a w210 model or w211 model ??????????????????.

That information needs to be known before anyone can really tell which car you have.

They are very different.

There is 16 variants of the 320CDI, but I agree we have to ask for a VIN number when it comes to a 1996 E280-300 just in case it was one of the last 124's made, the same goes for the 210-211.

What Mercedes

To KTH286,

I do not yet own a Mercedes car, it's just that I am planning to get new C320CDi and am searching for all the information I can find about Mercedes in general.

The reference to an E210 was meant to be an example of the (to me) unfathomable codes found in the forums. Wouldn't it be helpfull to name the car (i.e. 2006 E220CDi saloon)then the code so everyone knows what model was being referred to.

My experience of trying to buy a Mercedes so far has been terrible. As I live in Shetland, a visit to a dealer is a very costly and time consuming event, so I wanted as much information as possible prior to going to place an order. I filled in the "configure your ideal car" section on the Mercedes web site and sent it to my two nearest (relative) dealers. After two weeks, not one of them has bothered to reply. All I wanted to know was what would be the delivery time of my configured C320CDi Elegance. The price of my chosen car came to over £38,000 on the road, so being totally ignored is really p*****g me off.

I can understand how you feel reading the above, though I have heard it before from where you are

Why not phone the Manager at the dealership you refer to and tell him your thoughts on the subject and intimate you might drop in the showroom and discuss it face to face. Usually works wonders.

Disgraceful service, sadly it happens with other manufactures too, they expect the customer to do all the work and then don't have the decency to reply to your proposed order and even when you place an order they rarely keep in touch with the progress of your order. As already said a phone call to the General Manager followed up by a letter should stir thing up - I would also push for some discount as a way of compensating you for the poor service;)

Just dropping in to speak to the manager is out of the question, it would cost in excess of £250 to get there.

I have reported the situation to Mercedes HQ (in Holland) and they are looking into the situation. Will let you know what if anything happens next.

My suggestion was you threatened him with a visit ! Although I am of the opinion that satisfactory car ownership is half the car and half the outfit you have to rely on for for service support and repairs. I have never put a make of car on my shortlist unless I have access to a mark dealer who I am happy with . It may well be that it is only the sales staff who are plonkers but in my experience if they can`t get that right what chance do you stand with the lads round the back ?
