I've replaced the batteries in my key fob. It no longer operates the alarm/ central locking nor will the ignition start on the car. I need to re-snycronise it with the car. Currently I am using the spare key fob that came with car. I've had a look at the manual, but it does not mention anything about how to get them both to work together again. It suggests that I should have had the batteries replaced by an MB dealer.

Any suggestions/ ideas please!

Car is E200 Elegance, 1997 model. :?:

You could try

Dont know whether it helps but on My SL500 after you change the batteries you have to unlock the drivers door with the key within 30 seconds of pressing the remote button

I did do that, but it did not work. Anybody got any other suggestions, apart from going back to MB Dealer?

Hi

there are a few possible options, the most common is to point the remote key fob at the rear view mirror and press the unlock button put the key in the ignition and switch on for 30 seconds minimum (quite a long time if your stood there waiting). then switch of and test, if this doesn't work let me know and I will post other options.

Hi,

I recently bought a new key for my C180 ($380AUS) and the dealer reprogrammed it while I waited. For that price they were happy to do it.

It went like this - we unlocked the car with a good key fob, then he inserted the key into the ignition and pressed the button twice (this is for Australian cars - an additional AUS folder came with the car manual), then we tried it an it worked a treat.

Any damage to the orange lense in the front of the key fob??

Good Luck

Hi,

a long shot I know - but when I had the problem with my C180 (see previous e-mail), the dealer mentioned that sometimes it takes "a while for the code to take" on some cars.

"Some times we have to leave the key in the car for a few hours".

Now, I have an electronics background and this didn't make much sense, however given the cost of the keys - I tried everything.

It didn't work for me - however, you may be willing to give it a try.

Cheers

point the remote key fob at the rear view mirror and press the unlock button.
within 30 seconds put the key in the ignition and switch on then switch off and try the remote
if this doesnt work, repeat a few times, i have had one that took 10 goes!

btw martinv, thats what you have to do with keyless go... best done in a secure place... sods law it will have coded when mr t leaf finds the car!

No luck, tried it many times, but the car did not respond. The key would turn the ignition or anything.

Any more suggestions before I have to go to MB.

210 key

Hi

what kind of key do you have? From what you say and from the age of the car I assume you have a DAS 2 Key with a flick out blade from the side and not the DAS 3 key which doesn't use the blade for the ignition.

The reason I ask is that if the blade key doesn't turn in the ignition it is probably the wrong key. turning on the ignition and turning the engine over has nothing to do with the transponder, if the transponer isn't recognised the engine won't start but you can turn the key this function has nothing to do with sycronising the key this is only for the remote locking.

The other methode of syncronising the key is to unlock the door with the blade and switch on the ignition for 30 seconds

there is a third option but it applies to only a few cars in the UK these were rental cars of the mid to late 90's which had a button fitted in the boot this had to be pressed before you could sync the key

key type

Piestore,

I have the infra red key fob with three buttons, (unlock, lock and open boot). From your posting, it seems it is the DAS3. No blade at the side that flicks out and starts the car. There are no locks on the car (either passenger side or driver side) on which a metal key blade could go.

Thanks for your assistance on the matter.

210 key

HI

if it is indeed a DAS three you won't have the green and red LED in the rear view mirror that we all assumed you to have.

DAS three requires no sync if you have changed the batts you either have them in wrong or if the key was playing up before it is likley that the key is faulty, The batts are for locking and unlocking only and are not required for the key to work the ignition waht is very likly it that the key has come to the end of its life after 200,000 operations they stop working new one is only abour 45 quid
