I have just acquired and Audio 30 (BE3317) and replaced the Audio 10 Cass (BE3100) in my 2001 E55.

The head unit works OK, the only problem is that it does not sense ignition and the steering controls and display does not see it either.

Have I overlooked something?

Does the the car need to be told about the change of head unit?

Any tips or help appreciated.

Hello,

The E-class uses the CAN-bus for these functions. Are you sure that this Audio-30 has the CAN-bus interface? Not all MB radios do. Is your Audio-30 the one with square buttons and a phone function? If so this is quite old an may not have CAN-bus. Sorry.

The new Audio-30 is the APS version and models BE4715 and BE4716 have the correct CAN-bus for your car.

Many thanks for the tip, you may be right.

I will try and get a model number from my MB dealer, is there any sites on the web for cross checking part numbers?

Incidentally the unit carries the following MB part number

A 210 820 14 86 (04)
