Snap!!!

Mine started doing the same a couple of weeks ago. As yet have only looked at the fuse which appeared to be OK. I suppose the most likely culprit is the relay. I need to load the WIS onto my computer to locate the relay to test or replace when I get the time.

A little niggle at the moment but I'm sure it will soon become more of a nuisance as the weather worsens.

In the mean time if you find the answer please post the outcome.

w210 auto rear wash/wipe

Malcolm,
I am currently in Spain with my E class and will not return to the UK for a while--you may therefore solve the problem before I do! Please do let me know if you do.Regards
John

Decided to do a bit of research. According to ECP website the rear w/w relay is listed and must be stand alone. The price quoted is approx £12 so I will fit one as soon as I get the chance.

If ECP stock the part it must be worth their while so I assume they go down quite regularly.

An update on the rear wash/wipe situation. Fitted a new relay to the electric motor in the tailgate and this has not sorted the problem. Looks as though a more thorough investigation of fuse, wiring and switch is required.

I might try disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU as the malfunction occured at the same time as I had a new EIS fitted.

Keep you posted.

How much did you lose? I know it is for the 124 series but Bolide has posted a few times with regard to the wires breaking in the flexible rubber joint. I expect that the 210's are getting into that sort of age related problem now.

Hi Blobcat,
This particular relay must be one of MB's cheapest items. The price from the dealer was a princely £8.72, the only pain being you have to remove the large tailgate trim panel to replace it. Mind you, it also gave me the chance to inspect the tailgate box section for rust, none present, I'm pleased to say.

Thanks for the tip. It looks like I'm going to need a circuit tester and a sunny day to sort it out.

Malcom--Thanks for the update.Mine just did not work one day.Incidentally,I have had 2 new EIS fitted--both under warranty (coincidence eh?).
I won`t bring my car back to UK until March,so I`m interested in knowing how you get on.I just wash my rear window constantly with a hose to keep it clen for now.

John,
I have had two electrical malfunctions due I feel to the fitting of the new EIS. One is the rear/wash wipe and the other is that the sunroof used to retract initially to a half open position and then would power fully open if the switch was pressed again (it now just powers to the fully open position).

I think my next attempt at sorting the problem will be to disconnect the battery and let the ECU reboot. I have talked to the garage who replaced the EIS and they did not disconnect the battery when they repaced it.

All the other electrical items seem fine. I know the ECUs on these cars can close non essential circuits down if undervoltage is detected so I'm hopeful that a reboot might do the trick.

Will keep you informed.
Regards Malcolm

No change here but I havn't disconnected the battery as yet to reset the ecu. Now the weather is warming up its on my list.

As a 210 owner this thread may interest you re the auxiliary fan sharing the engine management fuse. If the fan motor blows this fuse it takes the engine with it.

There is a mod, see the attached thread.

Sorry I have never seen this thread, your relay box sits on the rear SAM unit, as this is all CAN bus controlled, changing the EIS switch live could have messed this up.

As you say Malcolm, a re set must be tried first,It could well clear it

Has Malcolm 210 had time to fix his rear wash wipe and if yes what was the cause of the problem?
Thanks
John
