Got a late 2000 W210 with 20K miles. I am told that both ball joints in front need replacing as do the brake disks. Is this normal wear and tear for a car of this age and miles. Also anyone know what the likely cost is?

thanks

ball joints

Hi
Sounds very suspect to me, I believe someone is trying to make a fast buck here, get your car checked out by a reputable workshops,
My car 200\124 has done 160,000+ & only had one track rod ball joint

Good advice. My 96 has clocked 108K and only last month did it require a ball joint.

There are things called 'drop links' in the front suspension. They have a short life, mine went at 25k and the MB dealer told me the knock was normal. A more honest dealer eventually replaced both of them, told me life was no more than 30-40k, they are cheap and it solved the problem. He told me this. I would expect after 4 years yours need replacing. Your delaer may be calling the drop links ball joints. To be honest I tend to get these replaced after 5 years anyway, it makes a big difference.

I have 84k on the 320 cdi and still have original discs with lots of life left. On other cars [not MB] the disc replacement has been 50 -75k miles. A lot of hard or city driving might shorten the life and cause them to warp or go out of true. You would feel a shudder from this but 20k seems short. Are you happy the mileage is genuine? I figure my 84k is a rather good life but depends on driving conditions.
