The background illumination on my climate control display screen and the surrounding buttons has failed. The warning lamps in the individual buttons work, but not the legends, and the climate control functions properly. I'ma new Mercedes-Benz owner and haven't been able to find any manuals for the car so can anyone tell me whether I should be checking a fuse or anything else simple? Many thanks.

found your module, just one thing when you say, surounding buttons, do you mean those within the unit only.
to remove the N72-1 module (climate control)
Disconnect Battery
Prise off cover on gear shift
remove ashtray
there are 2 srcews one each side under module
take out module.

The car will need a re sync all windows etc.

I do not know what is in the module but easy to open and see the fault lamp or illumination device.
I see that you are also in electronics

Best regards Malcolm

Climate Control

I am new to dis forum and appreciate everyones much patience. Mine wife es from Munich en I am from Austria original. I am presently rebuilding da duovalve in mine 94' S Klasse 420. Have found two solenoids with damaged windings and corroded valves and springs. Mine neglect of cooling replacement es showing up, yes? LOL...little dig at mineself as Engineer and proactive posture with most things.
Presently rewinding both solenoids, etc. Does anyone use ALLDATADIY.com site? It es most helpful with mine efforts. I hope to engage en discussions and learn from people with common interests here. I am most grateful to be with your family of Benz owners! hans

Thank you Malcom, will be rewinding by hand. Have a jig made up for mi drill press, but control of speed and positioning wire is area ov opportunity to consider.
Have 1150 wraps per solenoid to look forward to...LOL. Recently ordered and just received 1950 foot of 28 gauge HML magnet wire and 36 yds of 1" Kapton adhesive film. This polymide film has a valid temp. rating (500 deg F) for dis application and should function well with coolent operating temperature and heat noted on valve with scanner. Also, et seems like alot of wire, but I hoped to fabricate more of bobbins and wind to have on-hand for other Benz owners that may encounter Duovalve solenoid failures as I? Should have enough material dhis time for six additional bobbins. Will have camera ready for pictures and ensure notes for future reference to hope help others avoid mine errors. Haben Sie einen guten Tag (Have a good day)

Wow that's not easy by hand, two months ago I rewound by hand two Aston Martin electric window solinoids, in the end I did them on a lathe,
when you do it by hand it is so hard to make a neat coil.
The days gone by were much more interesting when so many parts had to be made. When I rebuilt my old Rolls I even cast my own bearings.
You have the same veiw as me, I say if someone made it, then it can be fixed

Ha det så bra ( have it good)

I certainly agree Malcom... I am still working on da bobbin unit and this es a challenge for sure. I want to fabricate out of thermo plastic and will use my drill press to wind very slowly after further examination and my wrist, will die LOL anyway... I still look for an old duovalve assy for a bobbin or will await mi thermoplastic stock to fabricate a half dozen, etc. hans
