Hi

I have a problem with the combination switch on my E300 TD (105K miles) which controls dipped and main beam. When I flick the combination switch into the full beam position, the lights stay dipped. Only if I flick and apply constant pressure on the indicator stalk will the main beam stay on. (This is obviously not the safest way to drive!) As soon as I slacken off the pressure, the main beam extinguishes. This problem has only recently started to happen and I'm guessing there's a problem with the electrical contacts.

My questions: 1) Which part is faulty and needs replacing; 2) How much does the part cost (roughly)? and 3) How long should it take a competent mechanic to do the work?

Answers much appreciated.

After searching this forum, the problem would appear to be a faulty combination switch.

Thanks Malcolm. Any idea how long this job should take a competent mechanic?
