w210 dash bulb help required

i have a problem with the temp dislay and clock the numbers sometimes come up and sometimes parts are missing and recently the temp display is hardly showing anything although it does have backlight but you just can't seem to see the numbers, please help!! Is it the bulbs or the dash?

Hello and welcome.

Your fault is well known and documented. It is the ribbon cables inside the cluster that make poor contact and the connectors need packing out with small plastic wedges.

This is all inside the cluster, it is a DIY if you are OK with electronics or there are firms that do it circa £100

basically i have to take the dash out and get behind the lights, i take it it's not the bulb then but rather the connection?

what if i buy a second hand dash will it work just to do a straight swap also will the mileage remain the same or will it show the mileage on hat clock?

Sorry you cant do that easily as the info in your dash has to be down loaded onto STAR and fed back into the new one,,plus a second hand one could have the same problem

sounds very complicated, can you tell me if a nokia car kit can be enabled to work with steering wheel controls, seen an adopter kit for a c class merc on ebay and my is an e class would this work and does it go throught the stereo as i have aftermarket one

Nah - very easy to remove and strip.

How well you do at reparing it is another matter but there are lots of firms out there that will fix them for you. Cost is normally £100-£200 ish.

I have a friendly MB dealer, at the last service he gave me the name of a man who would do a repair, and left the cluster pulled out about 10mm so we could get it off easily. its apparently only a push fit!
