Hi,

I need to remove the drivers door panel because there appears to be a loose screw rolling round the bottom of the door......most irritating, especially when closing the door. (I like to hear the "thunk" rather than the rattle ;-) )

Anyway is the door panel held in any special way (most panels I have removed from other cars have been a few screws and those annoying plastic clips that are a bugger to pull off and invariable break.

However, I am aware there are air bags in the door, so was wonering if there is anything I need to be aware off.

I have had a half hearted attempt at pulling the bottom part of the panel off, but it seems held fast (was wondering if it uses a different clip system that maybe requires the panel to be pushed upwards rather than away from the door).

Any pointers gratefully received !!

Thanks

Paul

How to remove.....

Well, thought i'd give it a go as the bit rattling round inside was driving me nuts !!

So, for anyone else wanting to remove the front door panel of a W210, then try this :

There a 3 "big" screws located under the SRS Airbag sign; the bottom of the diagonal pull handle (both these covers prise off). Last screw is behind the door opening lever cover (again this cover prises off).

The only other screw is the one holding the plastic round the door lock.

Once all screws removed (4 in total) then working from the bottom corner, I used a wide flat bolster chisel covered in cloth to prise the pop studs along the bottom and worked up both sides (around 7-8 in total). They are tough but do pop eventually !

Next the trim panel has to be pushed upwards to remove from the clips along the top of the trim (bottom of window). Once you have pulled the panel away, you will need to pop off the cable connected to the door opening lever (it is easy).

Thats it, the door panel can now come away completely.

And yes, I did find a piece of plastic rolling around the bottom of the door, not sure where it's from but everything still works !!

Cheers

Paul

Hi Winnie. For what it's worth your bit of plastic is probably the lower window channel guide whose job is to keep the window from rattling when it is wide open and down inside the door. Had exactly the same thing about three months ago and couldn't work out what it did or where it went! A more knowledgeable gentleman on this forum (can't quite remember who, but its in here somehere if you do a search) put me right but must admit haven't got round to refitting it yet. Not been a problem so far but will get round to it one day!

Ahhhh....thought it must be something "non essential". Might explain why I also found what looks like a large spring from a wooden clothes peg, also at the bottom of the door (although this wasn't rattling around). This spring looks as if it fits this plastic.

Ohh well, may get round to seeing if it can fit them back, but not to fussed at the mo.

It may be a thought to remove passenger card to see how exactly its fitted although i'd ask Tom to show a picture or sketch of it fitted.

Hey pascal, don't complicate things for me, I only just got the hang of setting a VCR before they became obsolete!!
(I hear golf clubs are fitted with steel shafts now!)

When I've a minute I'll try to find the thread on this 'thingy' for winnie's future ref.
