I did not think that I was going to find something that tied the 2 faults together, and it never come up before.

I have sent you a paper on what I think the fault is, and that is moisture on a CAN connector on the ESP module.

You could have the fault codes read off to confirm

This does not quite fit into the "limp home mode" as in your first post, the selector leever could be broken, or the selector module

i start from scratch again as i got confused info
sorry my partner will write what happen
car was driving fine. then abs bas esr light flash up. and then a blank gear selector on the screen. the car then drove like it was in 3rd gear and then a pull over car still running and put it into N then back into D still drove like it was in 3rd gear. drove it straight in to the local car garage which my missus works at and switch of. tried to start it and wouldn't start. start when the starter motor was bridged. but will not come out of park now.
the mechanic disconnect linkage and was able to move the lever on the gear box from underneath the car. connect back up a still wont come out of Park. would not talk to scanner Snap on one newer one. would talk to in on engine side but not the drivetrain

the Brake light switch could have caused your faults, £10 and easy to replace

It sits just over the brake pedal,,when it fails, it kills the CAN signals, along with all speed sensors so that the car does not know what to do

Just re-read all this again, reason scanner wont talk to the system is because the fuse has blown, even star wont do that with a blown fuse, if it was a brake light fault then you would still be able to talk to the ESP control and see that the fault was in the brake light switch! These cheese and crackers are making a mess of this laptop!!
