W210 E240 - Frustrating Acceleration Problem

Hi All,

I have a 1999 E240 Estate (W210?). It runs and drives well and the gearchanges are 'normal', as long as you use less than 3/4 throttle. It has no problem reaching high motorway speeds, and pulls well at low/ mid revs in all gears. The gearbox was replaced (or had a complete overhaul) only 10k ago.

The problem is when you try to accelerate hard, like you would expect to do when overtaking.

At WOT he car struggles to accelerate smoothly, and really bogs down at anything past 4000rpm or so. Under hard acceleration it will kick down, but then the gearbox holds in gear rather than changing back up. By backing off the throttle considerably and letting the revs drop, it then will change up.

I have asked the guys over at pistonheads, and they have recommended this forum to others for technical issues. It is becoming really frustrating, so I hope someone out there can help me.

Cheers
kf

Cheers!

Someone else has also suggested they had the same problem and it was sorted with a new MAF. Any suggestions on the best place to get one?

Will get the sensors checked as well.

Did the new maf cure this

Firstly hello!
I'm having exactly the same problem as described in this thread - how did you fix it in the end - new maf or O2 sensors

Thanks in advance

Eurocarpars sell the Bosch ones for this (I think the OEM ones are bosch) - or any bosch agent.

Don't be tempted to get a cheapie ebay one - worse than a broken one in many cases.
