Hi,

I have just purchased a 1997 car with cheap 18 inch alloys which need to be replaced.

There is no User Manual with the car - can someone tell me the wheel and tyre sizes that fit this model? I will probably return the car to standard Merc Spec.

Thanks

Tim

Hi Blobcat,

Thanks for your response, but your link is about MAFs?

According to my manual the Classic had 15" wheels and the Avantagarde 16" wheels. They are all interchangeable but the larger diameters like 17 or 18" result in a harsher ride but give better roadholding. However for most of us the extra comfort of 16" wheels, particularly on poorer quality roads is the best option. The sports suspension on AG models is also harder. I stayed with standard suspension and 16" alloys and am quite happy with it.

not sure about the 1997 version but the 98 E300TD has to run on 16" as 15" rims wont fit over the front calipers as they are too big
i believe this is only the case on the TD's
however im sure that someone will prove me wrong LOL

Thanks to all that responded to my question, particularly Blobcat's very helpful list - what a great forum!

Comfort is important to me, so I will probably end up with the 16 inch wheels. As far as I am concerned the ride with the current 18 inch alloys is dreadful, although I am sure the boy-racers out there will disagree!

Thanks again

Tim
