I currently have the standard 5 spoke avantgarde wheels fitted but they have seen better days, can any one advise where I may find the size of these wheels ,as the handbook shows numerous sizes. Im thinking of changing them for a set of AMG 5 spoke do I keep the same size wheels, I thought change a set of wheels would be easy but so many sizes and offsets, last thing I want to do is buy a set of wheels that dont fit !!

You don't say whether your car is Avantgarde spec. If it is the suspension is set slightly lower and spring settings uprated 20%. This means that the car will already have a relatively firm ride. I 'm pretty sure that your car was supplied with 16in wheels with 7.5in rims.

It is possible to take the wheels up to 17/18/19in but I'd strongly recommend trying a car thus equipped. The change to 18/19in creates a much harsher ride, so unless you drive predominately on the motorway I wouldn't recommend it. My car is equipped with 16in wheels and I find the ride quite firm enough.

Ultimately its a trade off between asthetics and comfort with a little bit of extra grip thrown in.

If you do decide to change your wheels to anything other than original options you will have to check the offset.

Your car should be fitted with 215x55x16 tyres on standard alloy 5-spoke rims of 7.5Jx16 H2 ET41 rims. Personally I would select what tyres to use first and then select the rims to suit. The governing factor is the overall height, which for your standard tyre is 643mm and the maximum width to be accommodated within the standard arches, typically 235mm. You can vary the height by at best 5% (610 - 675mm) within the limits of speedo readings but the higher value would probably rub on the bodywork.

You could fit a the 17in alternative of 235x45x17W tyre on 7.5/8J rims as optional equipment. As Malcolm says very low profile tyres produce a harsher ride and I am sure they will tramline more as well as IMO having no performance advantage over the 55 aspect ratio tyres.

I have bought 8Jx16 H2 ET35 rims for our 210 Avantguard, which I will fit with 225x55x16 W tyres when wew change to summer settings. I've dry mounted the rims and they appear spot on and fill the arches better.
