W210 / E320 ( 1996 ) Reversing Lights

Reversing lights on my car started working intermittently and now do not work at all. I have checked the bulbs and these are ok.

I understand that the reversing light switch lives within the centre console and that this needs to be removed to access / adjust / replace the switch.

Does anyone have any experience of doing this and offer some guidance on removing the centre console?

The pannel around the gear knob with the window switchs just lifts up and off then the selector module is there for all to see!!

You may possibly have broken wires in the boot lid hinge
