Hi all

Ive noticed that when at the traffic lights my engine seems to be missing a little bit dont know if im imagining it but i think it is . Also when servicing it the other week and i had the top engine cover off i found some black crunchy coal like substance where the injector and fuel pipes join together. I cleaned this away and checked for leaks but none found . Doesnt seem to be using any more fuel than normal/still plenty of power and still does my 140 mile commute to work every day . Any ideas anybody cos its starting to pray on my mind if its gonner go bang on M1 one morning lol

Hi,
Had the same problem, car very lumpy on tickover, turned out to be injector nozzles. The diesel specialist recommended replacing two but I ended up replacing the lot, not cheap £115 each plus fitting. By all accounts this is not uncommon especially with circa 2000-02 reg cars.

It might be something simpler as one of the injectors is coking up. Have it checked out by a Bosch diesel specialist.

Thanks

Any ideas as to what the black crunchy stuff was i chipped off with a screw driver . Seemed to be growing out the join between injector and fuel pipe.? Can you replace injectors at home i.e take them out and put new ones in or do you need a special tool or machine to reprogram them cos i know some ford injectors have to be mapped to the engine to work . Any body taken an injector out of one of these beasts on their drive or am i going to be the first lol

take them out one by one and make sure they go back in the same pots, the reason your getting (black death) is due to the injector seals passing! pennies to buy but replace the bolts as well!!

Thanks :D

Ill have a go at it one week end.I take it the seals are the ones that go between the injector and the engine yes? Do you need special tools or computer though ?Or can the injectors just go in straight out the box/packet they come in ?

i thought you were just changing the seals, new injectors have to be coded in, unless you are lucky to get the same code number!!
