Hello all
I have an E320 96 straight six which has an oil leak coming from the front offside of cylinder head/timing chest, i am being told different things by different people some are saying timing cover o rings require replacing, others say head gasket which means head and timing chest will need a skim, i can do the work myself but do not want to do it twice!.
Apparently this is a common problem on this engine true or false?
Also throttle pedal seems stiff at low speed making it difficult to control the car smoothly, with engine switched of throttle is free and smooth.
Any help much appreciated.

Check the filler cap - sometimes it seeps out from that slowly and covers other areas.

They do leak. Sometimes it's the timing chain cover gasket, sometimes the head gasket!

Unless it's overheated it shouldn't nead a skim. Find a good specialist in your area and it shouldn't cost too much. I've just had a gasket replaced and a full maintanace service (engine oil, coolent, plugs, fuel filter, gearbox & diff oil etc.) for £631 from Burton Motor Workshop, Burton-upon-trent, Derby.

Thats because your labour rates are soooooo high.

If the garage in question is £30 per hour they can still do the job in the 10 hours and a service into this price.
