hi everyone, does anyone know if the w210 e300 td. engine has an oil pressure release valve? or any other part of the engine that can occasionally loose oil ? i overfilled the engine oil level by approx one litre and because the loss of oil came in one sudden amount and now seems to be no leaks is why i am asking this question. i have a mk4 supra and this engine has a pressure release valve and on one occasion it did release some oil, again due to over filling. there was a slight leak on the filter bowl on the w210 which was resolved after two days running, i cannot see this having soaked the whole of the nearside of the engine. herbiemercman.

Every engine made has a oil pressure release valve often built into the pump, this valve does no more that to open when the pressure is too high, the oil remains in the sump.

When the oil level is too high, the oil gets picked up be the pistons and is burnt, the pistons are only lubricated by splash anyway, but as sais it will get burnt

thanks malcolm, if there is no oil pressure release externally on the engine then my hypothecis is that the lower plastic engine covers collected the oil i lost from the leaking filter bowl, this stayed there untill i raised the car 12 inches at the rear (for examining slv ) causing the oil to run out onto my drive way making me think that another oil leak had started, as i knew the filter bowl had been sealed. i have now degreased all the n/side of engine and the plastic covers, which i have not refitted and it will be easier to spot any further leaks, although i feel now that the problem is solved? i also think that with new oil you have to wait much longer for it to drain into the sump pan than with old oil, this is why i thought i had lost the oil with the level being half way down the level markings. ian. herbiemercman.

Pleased that you have washed it down, the movement of the car and the engine fan blows it everywhere. it normally takes broken rings (crankcase compression) to push oil out through the rear crankshaft seal., timing covers can weep.

Leaks are not a real problem, they are a very good lump
