Hi all,

I have an '02 plate E200 Kompressor estate, and the rear silencer hanger bracket has burst off due to corrosion. (the one on the o/s of the silencer) My local mechanic says there's not a lot left to weld it back on with (prolly believe him as I'm a mechanic myself tho' admittedly not a great welder). Is this a common problem with this type? Any ideas on replacements if it comes to it? I haven't got a quote from MB as yet and local garage has no listing for aftermarket.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Col

welding is a poor idea as it would soon break next to the weld.
I know that the hangers that go into the rubber rings are often offset.
Is it not possible to put a metal strap around it somehow with nuts and bolts, its only got to take the weight of the end

Exhausts...

I have a W210 E320 CDI (DEC 2001) and my bracket has just broken off the rear box as well.....5 years isnt bad for an exhaust, I was thinking of welding mine back on but having looked at the corrosion on the bracket don't think its the sort of fix that is going to last...so I am going to need a new one......has anyone got any good experiance to tell me about that doesn't involve a kings ransom and my first born ?

I am looking for the sort of tale that starts four years ago I bought a new rear exhaust for (not a lot) and its still going strong...what about Quick Fit or ATS someone like that ? Has anybody any ideas?

I had mine welded back on as the back box was in perfect condition and 7 months later it is still perfect. Details and pictures Here

Exhaust

OK Blobcat, I am going to go for a compromise position, I have ordered a new exhaust back box for the sum of £263 plus the VAT from Mercedes, but they can bugger off if they thing I am going to pay £430 fitted.

I am going to take the old one and have a go at making a new bracket and welding it back on to the old box which looks in A1 condition, I am then going to put the old one into stock and in three years time when the new one goes I will have a ready made replacement....thats the plan anyway, if it works out I will post some pictures as well to show how it was done. !
