Hi,

Can anyone shed some light on if it's possible to change the tail lights of my w210 1998 to the new one's of the w210 facelift models? Is there any special modifications needed?

Thanks.

I recall reading in one of the MB forums over here that it is possible. I tried to search for it for you but so far have not had any luck finding th e post. The wiring remains the same and some minor shaving of interior plastic from the new lens is required. I will try to locate the post. Mark.

Hi,

I have a 1998 W210 and have upgraded the rear light clusters. The lights in the rear quarter panel are a straight replacement and the lights in the tailgate will need to be modified to fit.

I used a dremel to remove some of the plastic from the lights so they fit. There operation is unaffeted by this. I have some photos if you PM me with your email I will send them to you.

Hello,

I have done this as well, you have to 'Sand off' some of the metal before you put it on, not a lot, just like what mrfirepro said.

It is not a difficult task, but definately not 'straight forward'.

Anyone else got anything to say on the subject? My car which is being completely resprayed at my local dealer has had a dry run of fitting the later type lamps but so far with no success. Reading the threads above, I am a bit baffled by the two differing accounts with one saying it is the plastic on the lights that needs filing whilst the other talks of filing the metal.

If there is anything involving metal been chiseled out, then I would give up and flog this brand new unit (which I bought not long ago on ebay) back on the ebay site. Otherwise if anyone wants to have a go at this conversion or need such parts, then by all means, do contact me.

regards
