Hi folks

Bought some new discs & pads for front of 320 cdi Avantgarde last week & thoght I'd replace them one evening.

Dismounted the caliper & attempted to remove the disc (yes I remembered to remove the small retaining screw), bashed the hell out of it , tried 2 G cramps across a heavy plate across the centre of hub as well as belting it, but couldn't get it to shift.

As it was getting late I decided to leave it & just replace the pads as I was afraid of damaging something. Should I be using a puller on this or just a bigger lump hammer (not a lot of room to swing one in the space)?

Interesting to note that when I replaced everything & drove to work there was an unbalance/vibration from the steering so I removed the wheel & rotated it approx 180 degrees & it now drives without the vibration, any thoughts on this as theoretically is should remain balanced in any position I would have thought.

I am about to chicken out & get the dealer to remove the discs for me (whole job about £45)

It only takes a hamer and a little WD40, Be brave and hit the sucker, A presto off it comes.

Jack the car and lower the front suspension onto a axle stand or pile of bricks, just enough to take up some of the slack, ,this will absorb some of the shock and stop the suspension bouncing when you hit the disc, knocking on the front of the disc will also help loosening the disc, on the same principle as a tight screw,do it up before you undo it.

There is also a new product out by Henkels called Freeze and Release,it works on the same principle as heat but in reverse, by freezing the center it will release the disc

You had probably trapped a bit of rust or dirt between the wheel and hub and dislodged it when you refitted the wheel the second time, be very thorough in cleaning the mating faces of the wheel and disc.
