W210 - how to refit ignition switch? (steering lock)

Hello,
I have a '96 W210 and I've removed the ignition switch to repair it (bad contact) so when I come to refit it won't fully engage into the steering lock. That is the "flattened shaped" metal pin which passes from the key-lock (fold out key) though the middle of the switch and locates into the steering lock doesn't go fully home.

Can someone shed some light on this for me please?
Thanks, Bob.
